From an artisan bread maker to an organic chocolatier and music venues, Lauren Ragen has truly honed her management skills at companies across Seattle. That experience recently led her to Stake as an operations manager, a role which she says fits into the core of what she does really well — knowledge seeking and cheerleading to connect teams and their processes. More than keeping track of monthly bills, Lauren is excited to empower renters.
Learn how Stake’s mission speaks to Lauren, what she’s saving her Cash Back for, and the ritual that helps her recharge and reset her mind at the end of the day.
Why does Stake's mission resonate with you?
My experience at mission-driven companies instilled a core desire to work for organizations that are committed to making a difference. Theo Chocolate, where I worked for six years before coming to Stake, is focused on ensuring a living wage for farmers across the globe and ethical and sustainable business practices. That changemaking mindset also attracted me to Stake. I need to know that my role supports a mission. It speaks to my heart that people can be empowered by Stake and financially get ahead.
What do you plan to do at Stake?
I am someone who appreciates systems and processes and I like to be a knowledge keeper — I consider myself a hub. There’s an opportunity at Stake to be the person to create new systems and processes. I also want to be a grounding source for people to help them figure things out and become even better at doing what they do.
What are some words that you live by?
The words, “this too shall pass,” brings out my optimistic side in difficult situations. I remind myself that something will change, and that helps guide me to where I want to be.
How do you spend your free time?
Lately, it’s simply taking a deep breath and being around the people I love, and getting those little touch bases with a core group of people as much as possible. I like to try shutting things down by 11 pm, reading a book so that my mind can reset, and eating chocolate from my secret stash that my son doesn’t yet know about.
What is your Cash Back from Stake going towards?
I want to set my family up for the future. I’m saving for my son’s college education and also putting money towards boring things, like paying the bills. Doing this is what allows us to have fun on Saturday and not to worry.
